Nottingham Forest’s City Ground has been chosen as the venue. It will be the third time in four years that the showpiece of the women’s game has been held in Nottingham. The City Ground still holds the record attendance for a domestic women’s game in England with 24,582 fans attending the 2008 final between Arsenal and Leeds. Forest also hosted the 2007 final.

Leading the two teams over the one-mile course in the Huron Basin in Salford Quays were BBC presenters Tony Livesey and Dianne Oxberry.

They were joined in the boats TV presenter Nick Hancock, comedian Justin Moorhouse and ex-Hollyoaks and Holby City star Jeremy Edwards.

Also putting their oars in were England cricketer James Anderson, England footballer Sue Smith, Olympic swimmer Steve Parry, North West Tonight’s Annabel Tiffin and Radio Lancashire’s Graham Liver.

The teams were given expert help from the Pool of Life Dragon Boat club in Liverpool.
