A visit to number 10

Quite a lot has happened since I spoke to you last. To help to promote the women’s world cup the squad were invited to watch the men on Saturday against Switzerland at Wembley we were treated to a lovely 3 course meal in the club Wembley suit before watching the first half of the match and then at halftime we went on the pitch and a few of the girls spoke to the crowd (well those that hadn’t gone for a pie or a pint) the reception was really good so hopefully we gained a few more supporters there! It’s a shame the result and the performance by the men wasn’t very convincing, but I am sure we will qualify.

On Sunday it was back to Wembley again for the umbro 5’s unfortunately I couldn’t play because im not sure I’ve mentioned it but I’ve broken two ribs!!! I was gutted to miss out on this as not only am I “fivo queen” but I would have loved to have played on the pitch that is a carpet, as they say “if you can’t play on that you can’t play on anything”. I won’t disclose too much about our results but we didn’t win!

On Tuesday morning  we went to St James Park ( that’s not Newcastle’s ground Jill Scott) it’s a park in the centre of London where we met young people who can’t get work for many different reasons , maybe due to being in prison, not having the right qualifications or as simple as not having the opportunities, the charity is called Street league which is a partner charity of the FA and Downing Street, they help find work for them through football, it’s  a great initiative and something all the girls really believe in so hopefully it will make a difference to a lot of young people’s lives.

In the afternoon we were invited to Downing Street to meet the prime minister he asked us in for drinks and chatted about the tournament, this was a very high profile way of promoting the world cup, no matter what people think about his policies he was a thoroughly nice guy, naming no names (Lindsey Johnson) actually said she may have fancied him a little!! I didn’t but I understood where she was coming from he had an aura about him and his powerful presence made him very appealing!!

I better go now im just off to have afternoon tea with the queen.
