A victory in Bristol followed by a very odd bus journey, read on for a day in the life of Sue Smith…..
So the second half of the league commences! We played our first game on Friday night against Bristol Academy and guess what…..We won!! Wuhoo! After our inconsistent start to the season we wanted to begin the second phase with a positive start and that’s exactly what we did, the game finished 3-2, an own goal gave us the lead and then Rach Daly added to the score line with a brace. It’s not the best when our left back is the top goal scorer, I think she needs to give us forwards a lesson in the art of scoring! We have two new recruits to the team not only are they great additions football wise but they add to our international players, Emma is a New Zealand international and Jodie is a fellow scouser, so at least I can help translate the Lincolnshire twang for her.
Friday evening was entertaining on many counts firstly the fact that we played the game in every weather condition imaginable from sunshine to an absolute persistent down pour of rain (many spectators may have mistaken the game for a wet t shirt competition had they seen the state of us leaving the pitch at half time!) I removed my boot and I’m sure half the River Severn emptied on to the changing room floor. After the game we all decided to dress up as geeks and go out to celebrate Lukey boy’s 40th birthday (I say we all decided but Nic Hobbs comes up with the plan as I think she is a secret geek at heart)! All the girlies headed out to the shops to buy their attire, however, the girls found it very comical that my whole outfit came from my own wardrobe! Ha! Outfits were amusing, however, the prize for best dressed has to go to the management team – Rod and Luke’s outfits were surprisingly by far the best…..just like mine not sure how much they purchased! Ha!
After the Bristol game I headed down to the south west for a few days! This trip began in a very amusing way – I was dragging my case from the hotel to the train station, which the hotel receptionist informed me was only 10 minutes walk away, however, this was clearly far from the truth as after about 20 minutes I was still walking (my sense of direction is renowned for being not the best so I may have taken a detour!!) little did I know a very random event was about to occur that was to save me from missing my train. So…..a bus pulls up alongside me and the driver opens his doors and in an accent (with was definitely not from Bristol) says he’ll take me to the station for a pound! Brilliant (would never happen in Liverpool!!) bit random as I was nowhere near a bus stop but on I jump anyway! I take my seat and have a little glance round and to my surprise notice a man sat next to me dressed up as a cowboy – waist coast, boots, hat the works! Also accompanying me on this short journey was a very smiley little lady who constantly waved at me for the whole journey! So if you are ever in Bristol and feeling up for a belly laugh wonder round near the station and await to be collected by the random bus!
Our next game is against Birmingham on Sunday 31st July, 2pm, Ashby Avenue – be great to see you all there.
I’m sure I will have plenty more little stories to fill you all in on in my next blog – bye for now!
