The Festivities!

Quite a lot has happened since the last time I spoke with you, our training and matches have continued to be disrupted by the freak weather, however off the field is a different story we had our Lincoln ladies Christmas party. I opened the human performance centre at Lincoln university and we gave out presents to the sick children in hospital.

I shall start with the Christmas party, obviously being devoted athletes we all trained in the gym in the afternoon; Glen had us working hard in anticipation for what we may consume later on. All the girls that had to travel stayed over in Lincoln, Jess and I stayed at Nicola’s house. Even though we were so close we still managed to be late for the meal (im blaming jess’s afro) so as our penance we had to down a shot. It was good fun and we all got to know each other a little better.

The next event was opening a new building at Lincoln University called the Human and performance centre. It is a fantastic structure that im sure will be used by a lot of people, it could help athletes such as myself to improve performance, help prevent injury and basically increase the longevity of players careers. As you are probably getting to know things do always happen to me and this event was no different, I turned up in my jeans and boots for the lunch that was provided and then for the opening I was going to get changed into my England tracksuit, which would have been fine apart from the fact I had forgotten my trainers. I asked the people in charge if I could borrow some and thankfully they found some rather smelly, two sizes to small trainers, I didn’t care they looked better than my boots!! Megan, Rod and Luke found this highly amusing. They also found the fact that I was being called by my full name Susan funny, thankfully the plaque said the building had been opened by Sue not Susan, I haven’t been called that since my mum told me off a couple of weeks ago!!

One of the most rewarding things that I have done was a visit to the local children’s hospital. Nic Hobbs, Megan and I were the chosen ones to deliver the presents to the sick children. This was something I was privileged to do and it certainly put everything that was happening in my life into perspective. Some of these children would be in over Christmas and yet they were in great spirits. I have to say Nic stole the show she was great with the young people and was making them smile; there were just a few mishaps, after giving a child one of the presents he proceeded to eat the bow off the paper, Nic being a fire fighter and sensing  danger come to the rescue and saved the day! Then proceeded to say to another child’s mum “what a lovely girl you have” mums reply “it’s a boy” Megs and I had to hold back the laughter. I have to say the nurses in their do an amazing job and if they need any help Nic is always available!!

Anyway I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year, hoping next year will be a very exciting and successful one for Lincoln ladies.
