Millwall Lionesses 0-4 Leeds Carnegie Ladies
Th
ree second half goals helped Leeds Carnegie Ladies to an emphatic win away to Millwall Lionesses.
After a week off, Leeds had looked a little rusty in the opening skirmishes, but soon made their skill and experience count when Ellen White opened the scoring in the 17th minute, after stooping to head in a low Mel Sutcliffe cross.
Leeds caused problems for Millwall throughout the half, with Rachel Daly and Sue Smith combining effectively to supply White and Carla Cantrell.
Millwall came out much more brightly in the second half, but soon found themselves two goals behind thanks to Leeds’s best move of the game; a run down the left from White, pass to Cantrell, back to White, sprayed left to Smith and a first-time cross for Sutcliffe to make amends for her earlier miss.
Leeds got their third on 55 minutes when White skipped over a half-hearted tackle to run 25 yards and rifle home, while she completed her hat-trick eight minutes later, heading home a Smith free kick.
Rick Passmoor’s side travel to Birmingham next Sunday, before three home games in a row against Millwall, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Leeds’s reserves reached the semi finals of the West Riding Women’s County Cup with a 7-2 win at home to Keighley. Leeds had taken the lead twice and been pegged back twice in the first half hour, before taking control of the game in the second half.
