Leeds Carnegie Ladies 1-0 Nottingham Forest Ladies
A 14th minute Ellen White header proved to be the only goal in a game of limited chances as a difficult pitch and both sides impressive harrying prevented either side from finding their best attacking form.
Leeds started the game well and were unlucky not to find the net after only 3 minutes of play when right back Steph Houghton saw her well struck 25 yard free kick beat the keeper only to crash back off the underside of the cross bar.
But they didn’t have to wait much longer to find the net as fullback Rachel Daly and striker Ellen White combined to give them the lead in fine style. With Forest keeping a high line in an effort to press the space, Daly played an inch perfect 40 yard ball over the Forest backline for White to split the centre halves and coolly head low past the advancing keeper.
The remainder of the game saw little action in front of goal as both defensive units held firm. Ellen White and Olivia Thackray had decent opportunities to add to Leeds’ lead but neither player was able to keep their efforts from climbing over the cross bar.
Speaking after the game manager Rick Passmoor was happy to have secured the win, “I’m pleased to have all three points safely in the bag. Whilst we weren’t at our best, particularly in the second half, I’m happy we’ve kept a clean sheet and maintained our spot at the top of the league. Now we can focus our attention on Sunday and get ready for what should be a great game.”
