Leeds Carnegie Ladies 0-1 Chelsea Ladies

Leeds Carnegie Ladies’s seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Throstle Nest on Sunday.

Leeds had beaten Chelsea on the way to their League Cup Final win earlier in the season, but were gifted the goal midway through the first half, thanks to a defensive error which saw Laura Bassett dispossessed close to the dead-ball line, the resulting cross evading Carly Telfod and allowing Anne-Marie Heatherson to score from four yards out with no Leeds defender nearby.

Whatever Rick Passmoor said to his players at half time seemed to do the trick, as Leeds came out much more determined to win the game and retain their lead at the top of the Premier League, but despite good chances for Cantrell, Bradley, Clarke and Moore, Leeds were unable to break down a stubborn Chelsea team.

“Fair played to them – they were the better team today,” said Passmoor. “We could and should have done better in all areas, and everyone is disappointed with the way things have turned out. But we now look ahead to next week and the visit of Arsenal and the return trip to Chelsea.”
