Doncaster Rovers Belles 1-4 Leeds Carnegie Ladies
Goals from Carla Cantrell, Mel Sutcliffe and two from Jess Clarke helped Leeds extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
Leeds had made the best of starts with an opening goal in the third minute, thanks to a Cantrell corner causing problems in the Doncaster defence and allowing Clarke space to flick the ball backwards into the net from a yard out.
But Doncaster were soon back in the game, as Leeds failed to clear their area, giving Rachel Williams a free header.
Neither team seemed able to master a tough pitch and take control of the game, but Leeds slowly made their quality count and got their deserved second goal, a Sutcliffe shot which looped over the stranded Doncaster keeper Marie Hourihan.
The second goal helped steal the Leeds resolve and the third goal, coming during a period of good pressure, was easily the best of the night. Hourihan’s clearance from the box only found Moore whose header found Cantrell, who turned and whipped in a sweetly struck shot which beat the keeper for height and pace.
Leeds finally got into their stride in the last 15 minutes, doubtless spurred on by Cantrell’s goal, and had several chances to extend the lead even further, but didn’t do so until three minutes into stoppage time when Hourihan was unable to gather the ball allowing Clarke to force over the line.
