Meeting Lancashire’s sporting greats

Hey Guys

Let me start with; how bad has the weather been this week? We have had floods, gales and sunshine all in a week and that was just outside my house. This meant that our game against Watford was called off at the weekend. This was a big disappointment to everyone at Leeds Carnegie. As anyone involved in football knows when you have a good win you want to just keep playing. The confidence of the players is high and as we all know football is very psychological, usually when all the players have a belief that they will win it usually occurs. Hopefully we can keep this belief going we have a mid-week game and need to win it to keep up our league hopes.

I have had another busy week, don’t laugh, but I have been doing photo shoots for a calendar. It’s not a glamour one its very creative and cool, well I would say that as its of me. But instead of me just siting there smiling or doing keepie ups on the field it has a different slant, I am sure you will all like it so please keep your pennies to buy one for Christmas. Just think you can put it on your wall and throw darts at it!!!

On Friday night I attended the Lancashire Sports awards. It was a great evening we had a champagne reception ( or orange juice in my case, I was driving) Then we had a 3 course dinner which was lovely. The company I kept was also interesting I had the Blackpool F.C legend Jimmy Armfield on one side and Panther from the Sky 1 show Gladiators on the other. Also at the event was Courtney Fry the boxer and Steve Dailey the England football captain for the Partially sighted team. It was very interesting to find out more about them and I have to say I am known for having big quads, well, Panther beat me hands down, I was very impressed. All I thought was I wouldn’t like to take her on with her pugil stick!! The event itself again was very inspirational and some of the winners had been through so much in order to achieve what they wanted in sport. The most inspirational award went to a young man who played football for England when he was in school he got cancer, he fought off the disease but had to have his leg amputated. This didn’t stop him he now plays at the top level for England’s amputee team. I am definitely getting emotional in my old age, this story really brought a tear to my eye and I was very humbled again at the determination of this young man.

Well next time I talk to you I will be in sunny Turkey we are playing in the world cup qualifier on the 26th November and I will also be 30, but please don’t tell anyone.
