Lancashire Sports Awards
On 20 November I attended the Lancashire Sports awards. It was a great evening we had a champagne reception ( or orange juice in my case, I was driving).
Then we had a 3 course dinner which was lovely. The company I kept was also interesting I had the Blackpool FC legend Jimmy Armfield on one side and Panther from the Sky 1 show Gladiators on the other. Also at the event was Courtney Fry the boxer and Steve Dailey the England football captain for the Partially sighted team. It was very interesting to find out more about them and I have to say I am known for having big quads, well, Panther beat me hands down, I was very impressed. All I thought was I wouldn’t like to take her on with her pugil stick!!
The event itself again was very inspirational and some of the winners had been through so much in order to achieve what they wanted in sport. The most inspirational award went to a young man who played football for England when he was in school he got cancer, he fought off the disease but had to have his leg amputated. This didn’t stop him he now plays at the top level for England’s amputee team. I am definitely getting emotional in my old age, this story really brought a tear to my eye and I was very humbled again at the determination of this young man.
